Tea Party for New Releases -- Angela K Couch, Debra Marvin, Carrie Fancett Pagels, MaryLu Tyndall, Denise Weimer,

Welcome to Williamsburg and to the Ludwell-Paradise house (located in Colonial Williamsburg but privately owned.) This house reminds me very much of one that might have been owned by the British-sympathizer antagonists in my story -- the Tarletons!! But for our purposes, this beautiful home will be a lovely setting for our party! It is conveniently located near several taverns, such as Weatherburn's, and they will be catering our event!

Can you see the name on the vent cover to the building? That is a subtle way of telling passers by that this is PRIVATE property and not part of Colonial Williamsburg. So don't knock on their door!

There are suspenseful elements in my story and even spies!!! I imagined a hotbed of Regency era English spies infiltrating our beautiful Tidewater Virginia.  So just in case there are any spies trying to sneak in the party, you can see by the photo above, the Ludwell-Paradise House is locked up!!!

Come in, enjoy Southern hospitality such as the spicy pumpkin soup my heroine favors! We always offer ham biscuits and gravy here in Virginia! And a Colonial Quills party is NOT a party without a complete tea service being brought around and fresh lemonade.

Can you tell we LOVE our tea here at Colonial Quills blog parties???

Now, come on in and see all the books being released by our authors!!!

The Steeplechase by Carrie Fancett Pagels

Blurb: Martha Osborne fears for her six-year-old brother, who was shuffled off to boarding school when his British mother departed to England. Set in Hampton Roads, Virginia, in the build-up to the War of 1812, expert rider Martha plans to substitute for her older brother in a “race to the steeple” to win the prize—and a bet with Phillip Paulson, equestrian trainer at Yorkview Academy, to help have her little brother returned home. When Phillip stumbles upon the real reasons behind the secret race he finds he may not be able to keep his end of the bargain. Can he save Martha and her brother? And will his heart be lost in the process?

Return to Shirley Plantation: A Civil War Romance has re-released (January 2016) under new cover -- designed by Colonial Quills own Roseanna White!  She did a beautiful job with the new cover!  This novella was an Amazon Civil War bestseller for over seven months and a top-rated book for a year, Praise the Lord!!! Once again, the novella is back on the bestseller list, this time in Christian historical romance!

Blurb:
Theater manager Matthew Scott is abducted and conscripted into the Confederate army because of his Copperhead senator father’s political leanings. Injured at Malvern Hill, Matthew is taken by the Union army to Shirley Plantation in Virginia where he is tended by seamstress Angelina Rose, a beautiful woman who unbeknownst to him is a freed slave. Given an opportunity to leave the South and start a new life for herself, Angelina remained for the sake of her sister’s orphaned twins who are still enslaved. Matthew must use his acting skills to remain safe, not realizing Angelina is merely playing the role of being a member of the Carter family, owners of the plantation. Will Matthew's return to Shirley Plantation settle a mystery concerning his father’s past? And will he and Angelina find the family they long for?

Giveaways: Carrie is giving away autographed paperbacks (or ebook copy if preferred -- winner's choice, USA only for paperback) of each of these books, as well as a pair of horse earrings and horse-patterned ribbon bookmarks!

Bio: Carrie Fancett Pagels "Hearts Overcoming Through Time" is an award-winning, Amazon bestselling author of Christian historical romance. When this Tired Old Mommy isn't writing, she's beading, baking, researching and traveling (but not all at the same time!)

New from MaryLu Tyndall

Suspected of killing her husband, Charity Westcott flees on the first ship out of Portsmouth, England heading for the colonies. Loathing all men after her abusive marriage, she hopes to reunite with her family in Charles Towne, but she ends up in Nassau. When she spots her husband's brother, who is intent on seeing her hang, boarding her ship, she jumps overboard.

Elias Dutton, pirate turned preacher and son of the famous pirate, Rowan Dutton, must get to Barbados as soon as possible. His sister is in danger, and his parents have charged him with her safety. He cannot let them down--again. But after rescuing a madcap woman from the bay, he now finds himself tricked into masquerading as her husband so they both can procure passage to Barbados.

Pirates, storms, shipwreck and betrayal threaten to delay the couple in their journey even as sparks fly between them. With her brother-in-law in fast pursuit, the last thing Charity wants is help from a man, especially a religious one, but she has no choice. After Elias' heart was broken by a sordid woman who nearly ruined his life, he seeks a godly woman pure as the virgin sands of the Caribbean. He believes he has found such a woman in Charity. Until he discovers she is a murderer and is now faced with two choices: letting her go or turning her in to the authorities

Bio: Award winning and best-selling author, MaryLu Tyndall dreamt of pirates and sea-faring adventures during her childhood days on Florida's Coast. As a follower of Christ, her stories often reflect her own journey and walk with God. Her hope is that readers will not only be entertained but will be brought closer to the Creator who loves them beyond measure.  MaryLu makes her home with her husband, six children, two grandkids, and three cats on the California coast, where her imagination still surges with the sea.

Giveaway: An autographed print copy and e-book copy of  Dancing up a Storm.

White: Book One of the Restoration Trilogy by Denise Weimer

As historic preservationist Jennifer and brooding bachelor Michael restore his ancestors’ historic doctor’s residence in a rural Georgia community, they uncover the 1920s-era prejudice and secrets that caused Michael’s branch to fall off the family tree. Recent graduate Jennifer is determined to fulfill her first professional position with integrity even if her employer lacks a proper appreciation of history. Far more challenging—and sinister—than the social landscape of Hermon are the strange accidents hinting that someone doesn’t want them on the Dunham property. Yet Michael’s and Jennifer’s own pasts pose the biggest obstacles to laying a fresh foundation of family and community.

Three stories - White, Widow, and Witch. Three centuries. Three lessons on the healing of the heart. And one buried mystery that threatens their redemption. http://www.amazon.com/White-Restoration-Trilogy-Book-One/dp/0990841685/

Denise Weimer holds a journalism degree with a minor in history from Asbury University.  She is the author of The Restoration Trilogy, The Georgia Gold Series, romantic novella Redeeming Grace, and numerous magazine articles about the Northeast Georgia region.  She's also a wife, a swim mom of two daughters, and for many years directed a group of mid-1800s dancers. http://deniseweimerbooks.webs.com

Giveaway: White's 1920 back story deals with family, followed by Widow (CW/1870 - forgiveness) and Witch (1790 - faithfulness). Between those three, or one from The Georgia Gold Series (see link above), which novel do you look forward to reading most, and why? Denise will give away a print copy (or e-book if preferred; print to US only) of White: Book One of The Restoration Trilogy, to a reader drawn from those who answer that question below.

New from Debra E. Marvin:
Alarmingly Charming by Debra E. Marvin is a novella in the Austen in Austin Collection. This fourth Austen in Austin novella is based on Jane Austen's Northanger Abbey.

Blurb: As travel companion to her condescending cousin, Philadelphian Kathryn Morton dreamily anticipates a week in the Wild West as the best cure for meekness. After a long rail journey and a steady diet of gothic dime novels, she shivers, despite the Texas heat, at the ghastly tales of the Austin Axe Murderer. Kathryn has little time to fret, given the competing attentions of quiet rancher Harmon Gray and elegant gentleman Jonathan Wellington. With her new-found confidence and her boundless imagination, she sets out to solve the mystery of Hyde Park Cemetery before another student flees Austen Abbey. Only then can she return home to her English-born parents as an independent American woman. A woman in love. But on the stormiest of nights, Kathryn learns that solving the mystery may destroy a future with the man she’s fallen for in a big Texas way.

Austen in Austin (WhiteFire, 2016)
GIVEAWAY:
Debra E. Marvin is giving away an ebook copy and some wonderful soap.
Bio: Debra. E Marvin tries not to run too far from real life but the imagination born out of being an only child has a powerful draw. Besides, the voices in her head tend to agree with all the sensible things she says. She'd like to live a wee bit closer to her grandchildren, but is thankful that God is in control, that He chooses to bless us despite ourselves and that He has a sense of humor.

Other than writing light-hearted romances and gritty gothics, she has rather normal obsessions such as fabric, peanut butter, vacations, British dramas, and whatever mystery series she's currently stuck on.

Celebrate Leap Year with a boy and a girl and a not-so-simple proposal... Gina Welborn's newest release!!!

Hotel chambermaid Felicie Richmond wants nothing more than to be the calligrapher for Wichita's prestigious Carey Hotel. She invests to look the part, but days before her job is to begin, an electrical fire damages the dress shop. Felicie envisions one way out: the Leap Day tradition whereby a bachelor who refuses a marriage proposal must purchase the rejected lady a new dress. Finding a few stuck-in-their-ways bachelors guaranteed to refuse her proposal will be easy. Three dresses should do. Figuring out how to overcome the humiliation of proposing marriage to multiple men...

Easy-going fireman Carpenter Yeary has no need for a wife, not with all the little ol' ladies in his church determined to find him one. When a strange woman proposes, Carp knows she's only after a free dress. In a moment of mischievousness, he accepts her proposal. Only their private conversation is overheard, and "Carp's getting married" spreads like wildfire, and soon his precious church ladies have a wedding planned. For Carp and Felicie, the only way out is to convince each other to call of the wedding...before love has time to bloom.

GINA’S GIVEAWAY: Leave a comment during today’s Tea Party for a chance to win your choice of either (1) an autographed copy the best-selling Lassoed by Marriage Romance Collection featuring Gina's novella "All's Fair" or (2) an autographed copy of Austen in Austin: Volume 1 featuring Gina's novella, "If I Loved You Less."

1904 - Wathena, Kansas

No two people are more ill-suited than Miss Coral Davies and Dr. Jack Kent. Jack loves tradition and stability. Coral loves change. To top it all off, their orchard-owning families have hated one another for decades. When a mudslinging in the middle of town lands them—and a dozen family members—in jail amid the apple harvest, Coral and Jack have a choice. Marry and free everyone. Or all of them spend the next ninety days in jail for causing a public disturbance. Can Coral and Jack overlook the odd (and humorous to everyone else in town not named Davies or Kent) beginning of their marriage to see God’s blessing in disguise?

AUTHOR BIO: Gina Welborn worked for a news radio station until she fell in love with writing romances. She’s the author of eleven inspirational romances, including the ECPA-bestselling Lassoed by Marriage Romance Collection. She serves on the ACFW Foundation Board by helping raise funds for scholarships. Gina is a lifetime member of the National Corvette Museum and a founding member of the Southwest Oklahoma Corvette Club. She lives with her husband, their five Okie-Hokie children, two rabbits, two guinea pigs, and a dog that doesn't realize rabbits and pigs are edible.

    4. Joan, when we moved to Virginia, I had no idea what a ham biscuit was. Pigs in a blanket? Deli meat on bread? Ham on canned biscuit? Ham on a home-made biscuit? And what kind of ham? How thick? And is there anything else on the biscuit in the condiment variety?

After a week of fretting (I was asked to bring some to a church social), I had to overcome my pride and ask what a ham biscuit was.

    6. Is there any provision for coffee drinkers? My cup is sitting beside me now. For a treat I go to ye olde Eagle Tavern here in Watkinsville (the dram drinkers are terrible at night, so one must go in the morning), and I fear I've grown quite accustomed to the stronger brew. ... I hear in Colonial times one had to visit a tavern for coffee because roasting beans was so time consuming at home, and most people did not have the necessary equipment!

      Delete
    7. Interesting info, Denise!! And Gina - no shame in not knowing what ham biscuits are. In a local restaurant here in the Louisville, Ky. area - I ran into a server who didn't know what sausage biscuits were. Yes, they had both sausage and biscuits, he said - but sausage biscuits, no!! Carrie, is the pumpkin soup hot or cold?? Sounds wonderful - my sister-in-law made a delicious cold pumpkin soup for a family Thanksgiving dinner.

      Delete
    8. Ah, I learned something new today as well. If you look up ham in the dictionary, you get (my granddaughter) and the state of Virginia

      Delete
    9. ham is as ham does ... especially when the ham is a child ... said from someone with a 9-yr-old ham

    2. Oh how sweet. Well, first off I do NOT write. I have no desire to, even though I do actually have scenes and voices in my head. ;) I just like to daydream. I love to read many time periods, wild west, regency, anything before 1900.
This is very enjoyable conversing with you!
