Then Lori Benton and I took a research trip through Ohio last fall, and when I got to work on Refiner's Fire I realized Nonhelema was going to have to be involved in the beginning of the story. At the time I was so focused on doing research for The Return and the location for some of the scenes in Refiner's Fire that I never thought anything about what new characters I'd include.
