Book 3 of J. M. Hochstetler's American Patriot Series, Wind of the Spirit, released in the new Heritage Edition April 1.

With the patriot cause on the verge of extinction, rebel spy Elizabeth Howard is drawn into the very maw of war at the Battle of Brooklyn Heights, where disaster nearly ends the American Revolution. But her heart is fixed on Jonathan Carleton, whose whereabouts remain unknown more than a year after he disappeared into the wilderness. Can her love bridge the miles between them—and the savage bonds that threaten to tear him forever from her arms?

An award-winning author and editor, Joan is the daughter of Mennonite farmers, a graduate of Indiana University, a professional editor, and a lifelong student of history. Her American Patriot Series is the only comprehensive historical fiction series on the American Revolution. Joan's contemporary novel One Holy Night was the Christian Small Publishers 2009 Book of the Year and finalist for the American Christian Fiction Writers 2009 Carol Award. She is represented by Joyce Hart of Hartline Literary Agency.

I'm giving away a box of authentic Boston Harbor tea from the Mark T. Wendell Tea Company. This delicious tea is the same kind the rebels threw off English East India Company ships into Boston harbor during the Boston Tea Party in 1773, one of the incendiary acts that sparked the American Revolution. The winner will also receive a copy of one of the volumes in the American Patriot Series, at their choice.

Book Blurb: Abducted against his will, Matthew Scott is conscripted into the Confederate army because of his Copperhead father’s political leanings. After being injured at Malvern Hill, Matthew is taken by the Union army to Shirley Plantation in Virginia where he is tended by seamstress Angelina Rose, a freed slave. Although given an opportunity to leave the South and start a new life for herself, Angelina remained for the sake of her sister’s orphaned twins who are still enslaved. Will Matthew’s return to Shirley Plantation settle a mystery concerning his father’s past? And help Matthew find the family he longs for.

The Charles City Tavern is just as lovely as I'd suspected! Will there be a fiddler later?

  7. Good morn to you all, dear ladies, from Elizabeth Howard, stopping in on my way from Philadelphia to take a tour of Shirley Plantation. I've heard so much about the plantation and have longed to visit for quite a while, and what a lovely start to the day to first enjoy tea and your most pleasant society. I especially congratulate Carrie and Kathy on their debuts. Well done, ladies! I can't wait to read your delightful stories!

Thank you, dear Mrs. Talvis for your very kind words about Ms. Hochstetler's portrayal of my story. You are most gracious indeed. My fiance Jonathan Carleton and I have had exciting times to be sure as these are tense days for us patriots. I do hope Jonathan will be able to stop by later and play the fiddle with your suitor, Ms. Meehan, before he must lead his Rangers north to Albany. I believe they'll be a perfect match for each other when it comes to the fiddle!

I must say, the delectable scents drifting from the kitchen have my mouth watering. Charles City Tavern is a most pleasant setting for our party. I'll have a cup of tea with a helping of that lovely tea cake, if you please.

    2. Ah, Miss Rose, the Dutch indeed made New York a most pleasant place and very grand. Aunt Tess and I took much delight in living there until the Great Fire did so much damage. With the British occupation conditions there are now exceedingly harsh.

I would love to join you in dancing a jig to celebrate your story! Let us see if we can find someone to relieve William and Jonathan of their fiddles long enough for them to accompany us!

    1. Oh, dear Miss Cynthia, it must be a trial to have the enemy at your doorstep. Living in New York I felt safe from the battle front, so it came as a shock to see the battle brought to the streets of Manhattan with a draft riot in me own back yard. It taught me to have faith in the Lord's provision and protection. A fine day like today, the worries seem a million miles away.

  21. Good morning, ladies -- what a lovely day for a tea party and a MOST excellent reason as well with the release of three stories that I love (Carrie's) and am sure to love (Kath's and Joan's)!!

Peppermint or Chamomille tea would be LOVELY as I need the calming effect with a daughter getting married in ONE WEEK!!! And much as I hate to, I must pass on all pastries so I can fit into a VERY tight-waisted mother-of-the-bride dress WITHOUT stays!!

Kathleen, LOVE your cover and title, my friend, and am chomping to dig in and, Joan, I have you on my TBR list because I have heard SO many wonderful things about your work, so maybe today will be my lucky day!!

No, wait -- my lucky day was when I met Miss Carrie Pagels at ACFW and it has been a friendship that has blessed me over and over, especially getting to know all the wonderful friends she knows who quickly become friends of mine as well. Carrie, I get goose bumps every time I see a picture of Shirley Plantation, so I would say that novella (and the ms. I read) have impacted me greatly.

    Hugs and Happy Tea Party!!

May He deepen you in your understanding of Him and His gracious working through the ages in the human hearts of all nations, tribes, tongues and times, and give you words to spill that fullness into your stories to bless thousands more. 47. Good Evening, Ladies!

Thank you once again for welcoming me, Tess Howard, to another one of your lovely tea parties! I've had a trying day, some difficulty with transportation, (at my age I can no longer ride like the wind as my niece, Elizabeth does, and had a late arrival home before stopping in here) but I am finally glad to make it. What lovely surroundings here at Charles City Tavern an excellent choice for your tea party! And the table settings are beautiful!

I have had the pleasure in reading both "Return to Shirley Plantation" and "Wind of the Spirit" and now look forward to reading "Bachelor Buttons"! What a treat to have all three books --and their authors-- together to take tea with. Yes! Thank you--I should love to have a cup of chamomile; I'm sure it will calm me after this eventful day. Now I shall find a place to sit and chat with all these guests. Quite over one hundred, I should say! What a turnout!

  48. Greetings, ladies. First Mate Bowen of the pirate ship, Akantha, at your service. Just passing through with a message from Lilyan Xanthakos. Wait, where did I stow her missive? Ah, here 'tis, under me hat -- what do ye think about the big red feather in me hat? I'll get on with it then -- Mrs. Xanthakos offers profound congratulations to Carrie, Joan, and Kathy and sends regrets that she cannot attend your party. She's tied up -- Ha! That's a good one. She's tied up aright, a prisoner of the most dastardly brethren of the coast, Captain Galeo. That's Greek for "Shark," you know. A truer name was never given. I'll pass on the tea till I can head to someplace with a stronger brew. I'm 'waying anchor as I am on guard duty for Mrs. Xanthakos and her daughter, Laurel. Beauties they both be. More of our story is being written tonight. Mayhaps I'll show my metal in a sword fight. It's quite a yarn, can't wait to see what I'll do next. Farewell, and fair sailing to ye all.
