Tea Party Roseanna White and MaryLu Tyndall

We are celebrating Roseanna White's and MaryLu Tyndall's new releases

Tea Party: Welcome to Poogan's Porch in Charleston, South Carolina. If you were following our Serial story last week "A Vow Fulfilled" you may have noticed that in Carrie's section on Roseanna's blog, the antagonist, Gaskins, references our hero chatting it up at "Poogins."

Feel free to come in character. We've a lovely selection of teas, coffee, and desserts to tempt you. Draw in a deep breath and you'll smell Poogan's Porch's awesome shrimp!  Yum!  Don't be shy--we've plenty of room to mingle and chat.
Now, without further ado, CQ features Roseanna White and MaryLu Tyndall--each with wonderful releases this month!

Love Has No Place in a World of Spies

1779—Winter Reeves is an aristocratic American Patriot forced to hide her heart amid the British Loyalists of the city of New York. She has learned to keep her ears open so she can pass information on British movements to Robbie Townsend, her childhood friend, and his spy ring. If she's caught, she will be executed for espionage, but she prays the Lord’s protection will sustain her, and Robbie has taught her the tools of the trade—the wonders of invisible ink, secret drop locations and, most importantly, a good cover.

Bennet Lane returns to New York from his Yale professorship with one goal: to find General Washington’s spy hidden among the ranks of the city’s elite. Searching for a wife was supposed to be nothing more than a convenient cover story for his mission, but when he meets Winter, with her too-intelligent eyes in her too-blank face, he finds a mystery that can’t be ignored.

Both are determined to prevail at any cost…and each is committed to a separate cause. Will God lead them to a shared destiny or lives lived apart?

Roseanna is offering a signed copy of Ring of Secrets to one lucky reader! The winner will be drawn from the comments, so to enter, just leave a note with your email address included!

They Left Everything Behind to Build a New Southern Utopia

Colonel Blake Wallace has seen enough death to last a lifetime. Weary and disillusioned, he slumps beneath the weight of defeat and loss. With his entire family murdered by the North and his name appearing on a list of officers wanted for war crimes, Blake organizes a shipload of southerners who, like him, long to escape the horrors of war and start a new life in a verdant land called Brazil.

Eliza Crawford can barely remember the days of her youth spent in opulence and comfort at her Georgian home. She can't help but wonder how different her life would be had she not met her late husband, Stanton Watts, a general in the Northern army. Now a war widow, Eliza is rejected by both North and South. Desperate to keep her marriage a secret and escape her past and pain, she longs to start over again in Brazil.

But once the voyage begins, troubles abound. Dangers at sea  and enemies from within threaten to keep Blake and Eliza from the new life—and love—they long for.
Tea cup set, with ship, Colonial style

    1. Brrrr, 'twas 32 degrees in Yorktown but a lovely sunny and warm day here on Poogan's Porch in Charleston. Miss Reeves, welcome! I'm Angeline Rose and my master has "loaned" me out to work at this event. Don't tell anyone, but I can read--Mrs. Roat, Master's sister, taught me in secret (your book has lots of secrets, too!) Welcome and I'll bring you a tray.

  2. This Charleston climate would surely do wonders for my spirits. Upstate New York is still entrenched in cold.
Good morning, Miss Winter. What a fascinating tale you have. Let me pour you a cup of tea and we'll greet a few guests together.

  3. LOL I hate to burst y'all's bubble but is COLD here this morning! It's 39 degrees in Charleston and 26 in Clover! And it is supposed to get up to just 52 degrees both places. Brrrr!!! For some reason March has some of our coldest nights. And what is really strange is that many of our snows come in early March if we get them. But of course Charleston doesn't get the snow. Lucky people. I need to move closer to that lovely city. My favorite place to go. Hey MaryLu! Waving to you from SC! Hello Roseanna! Waving at you, too. I'm sipping on my tea right now (literally) and watch the fire in the fireplace. Nothing like a good cup of tea!

    1. Debbie Lynne, I reject your reality and substitute my own, as the MythBusters would say. ;-) And what is it with March??

    2. We call Charleston the "holy city" because of the number of churches here. St. Phillips is especially beautiful and not far from here.

I've brought pecan tarts out from the plantation (shh! don't tell Mrs. Poogan!) Would you like some, Mrs. Costello?

    3. Oh, give us Yankees some hope that somewhere exists a land of perennial warmth and charm. ;) 26 in Clover? REALLY? Egads.
Those pecan tarts smell wonderful Miss Angeline. Thank you for your assistance to our guests. Your gown is lovely, too! It is obvious you are a skilled seamstress.

I am so glad I decided to join you, I am from Columbia which about 100 miles from here and it is a very chilly 33 degrees this morning. I usually drink cold sweet tea but I might be persuaded to have a nice hot cup of tea this morning. Roseanna and MaryLu I am so excited to hear of your successful publication of your new books. I am sure they are delightful. Thank you so much for inviting me to this charming Tea Party.

I do wonder where MLT came up with/heard about the Southerners heading to Brazil after the war... such an interesting tidbit of history!

    2. Miss Patty, I quite agree. MLT is a wonder the way she comes up with fresh plots and story twists all the time. I stayed up far too late trying to finish this riveting book last night, and I'm afraid my poor circled eyes show it. But oh, it was so worth it! You simply must read it. :)

  13. Good day to you all!! Sorry for my late arrival but Colonel Blake simply refused to turn the ship around! We were halfway to Brazil when I remembered your kind invitation to Poogans! But how could I miss such a party? There will be nothing like it in the jungles of Brazil, I assure you. Besides, I long for my last sip of real tea and some of Charleston's famous shrimp and even a pecan tart... at least one last time. I hear the fare in Brazil is quite different. Oh my, how will I ever survive. Forgive my manners.. I haven't introduced myself to those who don't know me. I'm Eliza Crawford, pleased to meet you all. I was a war nurse in the Civil war. Such a brutal war, but I was happy to help where I could. Now, I and some other people are heading to Brazil to make a new life for ourselves! We are very excited!!
Oh, I simply must have some tea, and I see some dear friends I need to speak with.. Until later...

    3. Greetings, dear Kim, I fear I had no choice! You see, I harbor a secret which has caused most of my Southern compatriots to dub me a traitor and hence I've been a castoff from society for far too long! I only hope and pray I can keep this secret from those aboard the ship! But they do say Brazil is much like our beloved South.. temperate, lush and good for growing sugar and coffee.. even cotton, I hear. I am fairly excited!

    4. Ah.. Miss Kathleen.. so pleased to meet you! I'd love a cup of tea and some shrimp! Oh, you are too kind. I fear this will be my last such luxury for quite some time. Me? handle things with grace? Oh Fiddle, I'm flattered but I fear I so often fall short in that area. But with God's help I shall improve. :-)

      Delete
    5. Miss Eliza, are there other women on this trip with you? And I do not know Colonel Blake,is he a gentleman or as rough as most of the sea captains? I find it so sad that you have been treated as a castoff - society can be so cruel at times. I hope you find new life in Brazil and I will pray for you on your journey

Winter in Indiana has not been kind this year. Right now it is in the 30's and I need more than a light wrapper to keep warm. There is nothing like sipping a hot cup of tea on a day like this. Threats of snow are still in the air with the expectancy of the sky opening up and dumping another white, cold blanket on us. The tea cup set would be wonderful to sip my hot brew on this cold day. Goodies to eat with my tea and a nice book to read would surely do wonders for my spirits.

  28. Oh, goodness, I have a tic in my eye -- two of my favorite writers with new books!!!

Fortunately for me, I have already read MaryLu's FABULOUS Forsaken Dreams -- absolutely her BEST EVER, and a real tease for the next book in this incredible series.

So ... that means my eye ticking is cut in half because now I only have to get my hands on Roseanna's book!! ;)

And, Carrie, shrimp and rice with a side of broccoli salad sounds DIVINE!! A cup of peach tea to go along would be absolutely LOVELY!!

    Hugs,

    1. Welcome Marissa! In truth, a reader stopped me at a book signing and told me about the history of a mass exodus of Southerners from the US to Brazil after the Civil War. I kept the thought in the back of my head for several years and then finally did some research on it and found she'd been right. Nearly 20,000 Southerners fled to Brazil to start a new Southern Utopia. Their descendents still live there and celebrate American holidays!!

  36. Hello all, I've been caring for a dear friend who had surgery this morning. Not to worry, she is recouping well, though she was feeling woozy earlier, so I put her to bed. We've been up since 4:30 this morning, and I would LOVE a cup of Bohea. Nothing stiffens the spine and reserve as a strong cup of tea. Though it's not as comforting as good, friendly company. Roseanna, I finished reading Ring of Secrets and found it exciting, full of intrigue and twists and turns. MaryLu, I look forward to reading Forsaken Dreams. Oh, I must be more tired than I realized. I just committed a faux pas by raising my pinky while holding my cup. Do forgive me. Oh, my, another faux pas, I clanked my spoon against my cup. During her tea etiquette instructions Mother always warned that clinking one's spoon makes unnecessary jarring noises that might interrupt the pleasant conversation. Carry on, dears, while I sit quietly drinking my tea.

It took hours by coach to drive in from our Markham Hall Tea Plantation but I will stay overnight in our townhouse on the bay and drive back tomorrow. I have brought a gift to you of some of our best teas:Earl Grey Supreme, China Rose Petal, Yorkshire Gold,Cranberry Autumn, First Flush Darjeeling, and Peach Ginger Twist. My husband, former privateer Captain Lucas Bloodstone Markham, has had some success in developing our teas, flavors of which he has brought from his travels over the world. Now let me dismiss my coachman. As I am expecting our first child, I am somewhat weary from the journey. If you please, I am ready for a cuppa Earl Grey and some cucumber sandwiches.
