It is our pleasure to host another Colonial Quills Tea Party in honor of our special guests, authors Joan Hochstetler and Elaine Marie Cooper. Elaine has a new release and Joan has re-released her first three books! Congrats, ladies!!!
Books by J.M. Hochstetler: Daughter of Liberty, Native Son, Wind of the Spirit, and The Crucible (soon to be released.)
Books by Elaine Marie Cooper: the Deer Run Saga: The Road to Deer Run, The Promise of Deer Run, and her newest release, The Legacy of Deer Run.
Nellis Tavern, King's Highway (NYS Route 5 East, St. Johnsville, Mohawk Valley, NY) Built in 1749 as a residence for Christian Nellis, this building originally faced the Mohawk River and the King's Highway. As early as 1783, it had evolved into a public Tavern, and by 1801, included a mercantile. Nellis Tavern has some excellent examples of early American folk art stencils. The Tavern is being restored under the auspices of the Palatine Settlement Society.
GIVEAWAYS: One of each author's books will be given away at the end of this week. Leave a comment and your email address to enter the contest.
CONGRATS, ELAINE, on your new release! And congrats, Joan, on your re-releases, too! I was up very early and had coffee but must retire again. Will check in later. Would be wonderful if we had breakfast breads and berries with fresh whipped cream!
ReplyDeleteGood Morning, Carrie! Thank you so much for your kind words! I am very excited about my newest release that takes place in 1800 Massachusetts. And to celebrate the release of "The Legacy of Deer Run," I will be offering a free copy to one of our readers who leaves a comment today. And congrats to Joan on her re-releases! I have read her Historical Fiction novels and was quite swept away with her wonderful, well-researched books! And...I think I am most definitely ready for a copy of hot tea and a few blueberries this morning!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much, Elaine, and my congratulations to you!
DeleteCongratulations to you both, Joan and Elaine! Thank you both for writing books that make history interesting and come alive!! Blessings!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on the new and re-released books. The strawberries are just starting here in the north, I have a few in the kitchen to share. :)
ReplyDeleteGood morning all! I've brought a tray of fresh huckleberry muffins, baked with a sprinkling of almonds and a dab of lemon curd. Feel free to grab one while they're warm. The tavern is lovely, and one my friend Neil MacGregor likely stopped at during his journey through the area in the early spring of 1784. I must have me a look 'round.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations Elaine and Joan!
Congratulations and best wishes to Elaine and Joan on your releases! It's lovely to be here to celebrate with you. I love visiting historic sites, and this one sounds very interesting. An old tavern, tea and sweets, and beautifully-written books with lots of historical detail--what better way to start the day? Blessings, ladies!
ReplyDeleteGood Morning, Dear Ladies! Thank you for coming to the Tea Party. Ladette, thank you for your kind words about our historical missives—they are really quite fun to pen! And Pegg, I so enjoy strawberries—they will taste lovely with my blueberries. Let me share a few with you. If we add a dollop of fresh cream, we will be quite Patriotic, indeed! Lori! So lovely to see you have arrived—and with huckleberry muffins?! My taste buds are swelling already! Welcome!
ReplyDeleteWelcome, Dear Lisa! Do sit down, my dear and rest yourself. What better way to refresh yourself after a long journey from Massachusetts than to enjoy some tea, sweeties, and the chatter of friends. Thank you for coming! And how is your lovely family, especially sweet Drew? Or are you now calling him by his given name? He must be growing so quickly!
ReplyDeleteGood morning! Congratulations on your books! Many thanks to Colonial Quills for hosting the giveaway. I have read reviews and heard about these books and know that they must be good!
ReplyDeleteMay I have some tea? And those scones look delicicous; what kind are they. Everthing looks perfectly lovely, Mrs. Pagels.

Good day, Ladies! Congratulations on your new releases. I've read some of Joan's already and they are stupendous! And I've heard that Elaine's are equally delightful! Speaking of delightful, I believe I'll try one of those scones and some tea. I have a big day ahead of me and it simply won't do to start it on an empty stomach!
ReplyDeleteThank you for the invite to enjoy tea and scones. I have been drinking Darjeeling lately, but English Breakfast is a favorite, too. And, some good books to go along with the tea and scones would make for a perfect kind of day!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations to the proud authors who are so worthy of a tea party! I enjoyed the photo of the Tavern and background on it.
Blessings, Janice jsmithg(at)hotmail(dot)com
Wonderful to see 2 of my favorite authors here:) Tea sounds wonderful this rainy morning - and some scones with lemon curd and clotted cream, please! HUGE congrats to both ladies for their contribution to such wonderful colonial and early American fiction. I have their books on my keeper shelf and am proud to say I know the authors!
ReplyDeleteDear ladies, welcome! So happy you are free to join us for tea and scones! Madame Pagels does an excellent job of presenting her delightful treats, does she not? I believe they are currant scones but correct me if I am wrong, Madame Pagels. I've been so busy that I have neglected to taste them! I think I shall sit right now and enjoy her gracious hospitality. I do love this Tavern setting! And thank you ladies for your delightful comments on our books. Joan and I are quite excited about these releases. May I refresh anyone's tea?
ReplyDeleteMadame Pagels is off to the Palatinate of Germany with Mademoiselle Richelieu! Popping by to enjoy a treat before we ride on those magnificent horses! We are escaping, so please keep my presence hush hush!
DeleteAh, Laura! Delightful to have you come to tea! And your kind words make me blush. "Tis you that deserves such acclaim for your wonderful work! Tea and scones coming up—along with lemon curd and clotted cream, for your pleasure. Do stay a bit and feel the sunshine of caring friends.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations ladies! What a great day at CQ and I came at a great time. The food is delightful! I'm definitely going to have to make note of the Inn's location for another visit in the future! Pat, are you around here? You must be loving this place!
ReplyDeleteI would love to just sit on this rainy day and immerse myself in one of these lovely historicals (but it's off to Home Depot for me!). I must go hitch up my wagon but I will stop on the way back.
Great to see Deb here:) And Home Depot is dear to my heart. We have quite a path beat from our door to that dear store! Praying your project goes well - and you're doing well, too!
DeleteDeb, this should be right in your's and Pat's neighborhood then, right?
DeleteDebra, do hurry those geldings along so that you can join us soon! But not so quickly that they slip on the muddy roads! ;-)
ReplyDeleteHuzzah to Elaine and Joan! Such admirable accomplishments. I’m dropping by for a hurried cup of tea and a scone and then must be on my way. I checked on my whortleberry bushes this morning and was pleased to find them almost ready for picking. My dear husband so loves a whortleberry flummery. I have a nice piece of linen that I want to dye with the berries as well. Alas, though, I’m already having to scoot the birds away from my garden as they always manage to eat more than their fair share before I can harvest.
ReplyDeleteYour husband is blessed, indeed, to have such a fine consort to prepare whortleberry flummery!
DeleteThose nasty birds do take their fill of berries, do they not?
So lovely to have you visit, even for just a few moments of your time! Enjoy your scone at your leisure.
Hallo, Dear Ladies!
ReplyDeleteSuch a pleasure to stop in again after a time of being away....my good friend Mistress Nellis was kind enough to let us use the tavern rooms for this get-together! She has done some lovely stenciling, and has set up some simple but wholesome fare. Thank you Mistress Benton for bringing the muffins! What a delight! And besides the scones, please help yourself to strawberry-rhubarb pie and a sampling of teas--we have sassafras, mint-- and coffee as well.
I hope no one had difficulty finding us? I was so glad you all managed the roads in this wet spring weather. Waving to you Mistress Marvin! And I will ask the Nellis's if they have seen Mr. MacGregor.
We are near St. Johnsville; and not far from Sir William's homestead. Near 20 miles west of here you will come to the Palatine settlement of German Flatts; a last outpost, I'm afraid, before the wilderness forts.
Now, I must ask Mistresses Cooper and Hochsetler what their plans are for their next books? I've heard some words bandied about for "The Crucible" and its release....and wondered too, if Elaine might have any thoughts for her next story....?
Ah, yes, Mistress Iacuzzi! It is with great pleasure that I announce a very special historical fiction planned that I will be researching this very month of June in the fine state of Massachusetts! It seems that in 1775, there was a battle that occurred in my hometown of Arlington (then called Menotomy Village). It was a fierce and bloody fight that resulted in more deaths among the villagers and the Redcoats than in any other battle on that first day of the Revolution. Somehow the history books shine their light on Lexington and Concord, yet ignore this terrible struggle by patriots on that very same day. I hope to bring it to life with the account of its heroes and heroines.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations Ladies on the release and re-release of your books. It's an exciting time. I'm looking forward to some very good reads.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Mistress Grunst. Please stay for tea and scones. I think we saved a few for you!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations to to the newly released a re released Books, they both look so wonderful good and i can't wait to read them. Looks like the Tea Party is in full swing, everything looks so lovely, thanks for the invite.
ReplyDeletePlease add me to your giveaway :)
Thank you for coming, Mistress Stukey! So happy to welcome you to our celebratory tea party. Do make yourself at home and enjoy a scone (or two!).
ReplyDeleteA great big huzzah to Elaine and Joan on your releases! So excited for your successes!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Mistress Carla! So lovely to have you here. I am so happy that Madame Pagels made so many delicious scones since I...ahem...have partaken of several myself...
DeleteThis lovely tavern, procured by Madame Iacuzzi, is responsible for the wonderful baked good, Mistress Cooper. The muffins this morning look delectable.
DeleteAH! I stand corrected and will thank the taverners themselves as well as Mistress Iacuzzi. Bravo to their delectable baked goods!

DeleteThank you for your very kind comments, ladies, and I add my congratulations to Elaine for her wonderful new release! I apologize that I wasn't able to pop in yesterday. I had some concerns to deal with that pushed our tea party to the back of my mind, and it wasn't until today that I realized I'd missed the festivities!
ReplyDeleteWhat a delightful setting Nellis Tavern is for a tea party, and what a lovely time you all obviously had. I am so sorry that I missed your sweet fellowship, not to mention Lori's delectable huckleberry muffins, the strawberry-rhubarb pie, berries, scones, and tea. I will definitely make it a point to be present at the next tea party so I won't miss out again!

ReplyDeleteHi Carrie,
ReplyDeleteThank you!! I would like to choose book 1, The Road to Deer Run. I received your e-mail and will send you my address for the print book! I am so glad I was part of your tea party! Maybe... there is a scone recipe in the offering too??
I have been quite a few places since I received your notice. Over to read Elaine's magazine article ~*~ I too lost a child, last June 3, two days before his birthday of a heart attack. My firstborn and only son. How I love and miss him. The Lord has upheld me and I trust Him. Years ago He gave me, "You gave him as a child, I hold him as a man." I took that as an undergirding, but now I take it literally. He loves us with an everlasting love. We are His.
I also listened to the radio interview about the writing of The Road to Deer Run. I have one cousin who has done our Irish side research ~*~ quite some lookers (staring eyes of "freeze" photos) and yes, a scoundrel of one! Another cousin has provided a book she prepared for our Norwegian ancestry, research she gathered plus current updates by CD. I have another cousin doing our German grandfather's side. Okay, I'd better get back over and send my address to you! Kathleen
